Volunteer of the Year Tim Raney

Volunteering with Beyond Boundaries takes many forms, and for some, it becomes a way to embark on personal adventures. For our second Volunteer of the Year, Tim Raney, it was a way to learn new things while connecting organizations that he cares about.

As a member of the Hampton Park Men’s Club, Tim has a history of volunteering and service. Over the last two years, the HPMC has played a large role in our programming and fundraising efforts, thanks largely to Tim’s efforts.

“The HPMC does community service-oriented events and raises money for charities in the local community, a while ago we adopted Beyond Boundaries as a charity to support, a member had a connection to Shep and after meeting him, we voted and Beyond Boundaries won, and became the charity we adopted. We also volunteer and try to help out as much as possible,” Tim says.

As Tim has become more involved with Beyond Boundaries, he’s found ways to advance his own skills and learning, including becoming one of our pontoon boat captains.

“Last year I got my boat license, so I can take out groups and do pontoon boating trips. For the participants it’s a great experience. I love being able to point out waterfowl and landmarks to the participants and spending time outside in a different setting,” he says.

This Volunteer of the Year has a special, personal connection to nature and is always happy to help share that with our participants.

“I like to do outdoor events like hiking and fishing and to see the faces of the participants that have never been out fishing or hiking, it’s a great opportunity to enlighten people’s lives. I love to observe nature in its many forms. I love to be outdoors. My dad used to take me on hikes and I did that for my daughter too and now she’s a park ranger,” he states.

Tim also understands the value that time in nature exploring can have for our participants. He has done an incredible job this year embracing our mission of Accessibility, Community and Empowerment.

“To me it’s really a public service. It’s helping others enjoy the outdoors. You could probably find all kinds of studies that support that. People being outdoors and enjoying nature gives them an appreciation for nature overall. I see it in the participants' faces, you can see people taking in everything around them and enjoying it,” he says.

Thank you Tim and the Hampton Park Men’s Club for all of your incredible efforts the last two years, we truly appreciate the work you do to help make sure that Adventure is for Everyone.

“Tim is a true outdoor enthusiast and a versatile volunteer and loves sharing the reasons he loves being outside with others. He has truly made an impact on our programming and has done a great job engaging new people in nature,” says Executive Director Shep Roeper
