Meet the Crew: George

George is our new program coordinator and member of the team. He has been an avid outdoorsman since an early age through programs like BSA. He graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 2013 with a focus in Developmental Psychology and Mentoring at-risk youth. George has been a dedicated rock climber for the past 20 years, and this passion led him to start the first Richmond-based rock climbing program that included individuals with disabilities. Now, with Beyond Boundaries, he is excited to share his passion for other outdoor activities like Camping and Mountain Biking!

  1. What do you go by? George

  2. How old are you? 35

  3. Where did you go to college? University of Mary Washington '13

  4. Where did you grow up?  Richmond

  5. Favorite outdoor activity? Rock Climbing! However Mountain Biking has become a very strong second.

  6. What's your guilty pleasure? Video Games

  7. Favorite type of BB trip? Rock Climbing!

  8. Favorite band? This changes by the week! I listen to a wide range of music from rap, hip hop, classic rock, metal,  blues, EDM, and whatever else gets my head bobbing at the moment.

  9. Favorite food? French Fries, with some salt and ketchup. So hard to say no.

  10. How did you get involved with BB? Back before Covid, I was working for Peak Experiences where I started their first adaptive climbing programs. As the program grew I started a partnership with BB in an effort to reach a wider range of individuals. BB has been such a supportive partner that when I began looking to support individuals with disabilities full time, joining this team was a perfect fit.

  11. Why does BB's mission resonate with you? I am a big believer in the power of fresh air and sunshine. Being outside and engaging with the natural world can bring immense positivity to your life. The populations BB serves have the toughest time getting outside but are also those who would probably benefit the most. I am thrilled to be able to help break down the barriers and show just how awesome the outdoors can be.

  12. Fun fact about yourself? I studied Martial Arts as a kid and earned Eagle Scout through Boy Scouts of America

  13. What does adventure mean to you? Stepping outside your normal routine or comfort zone to experience something that the world has to offer.

  14. Favorite animal? Bears!

  15. Favorite place you've traveled? The Flatirons in Colorado
